A fantastic informal campsite on a local farmers land. The perfect spot next to a river for your first or last night of your WildTrax Adventure.
We were recently made aware of a local wild campsite which is situated on the farm of a local Land Rover enthusiast and had to try it out for ourselves. So the moment we had some time (and availability in the calendar) we booked off a night and arranged with Hugh to spend a night there.
He has no website or social media presence so if you’re looking to book this spot for £10 a night (pp), it’s best done through us and we can make the necessary arrangements for you.
For our visit, we took the New Defender and our friends were in the Defender 110 XS with their 2 kids & doggie.
Due to the terrain of this location, it is only accessible by 4×4’s. There aren’t many campsites that only cater to 4×4’s so this one is a welcome retreat. Although it’s only accessible to 4×4’s no major offroading is required. Just be aware of the odd tree stump when turning/reversing.
Please remember to respect the land and most of all…. LEAVE NO TRACE.
A quick half-hour drive from WildTrax HQ this informal campsite is an excellent location for our WildTrax guests. We often have guests whose flights land late or leave early on their arrival/departure dates and regularly get asked for a campsite nearby. This wild campsite is a great location for starting the NC500.
As this great location is a wild one surrounded by farmland and bush, be sure to apply loads of insect repellent to help deter the ticks & midgies. Be sure to check for ticks regularly.
The term “Wild Camping” refers to those with a tent in their backpack who hike up into the hills and does not include those camping in/on a vehicle. But thanks to farmer Hugh he’s giving guests like ours the opportunity to have a true wild camping experience.
On his farmland, he has cleared a section next to the river under the canopy of trees for wild campers. He has set up a few firepits which are dotted around the site for a safe way to BBQ and enjoy a s’more.
As this is a wild campsite it goes without saying that there are no shower facilities, but not to worry there is a river close by for a refreshing morning swim.
Going camping has never been easier, everything is included.
